Know exactly who signed.
Any electronic signature records that someone signed. KuduDoc Identity is what will tell you who — checking the signer's ID document and face before they sign, and writing the result into the document's audit trail. It is in build. Everything on this page is what we are making, not what you can switch on today.
When it ships it will come out of your credit balance, like AI answers and high-quality OCR already do. We are not publishing a per-check price until the checks run and we know what one costs.

Match the check to the stakes.
A rental application doesn't need what a property transfer needs, so the tier will be a per-envelope choice. Neither tier runs yet, and neither has a price we are willing to put in print until it does.
Tier 1 · Document & biometric*
The signer's ID document and face, checked before they sign.
The signer photographs their SA Smart ID card, green ID book or passport. KuduDoc runs authenticity checks on the document, then selfie liveness detection and a 1:1 face match confirm a real, matching person is actually there. We label it for exactly what it is — document and biometric verification, never a government check. It will draw on the same credit balance as AI answers and high-quality OCR, so it costs credits on every plan — and Personal accounts include no monthly credits.
Planned after that: active challenge liveness* — the bank-style screen-flash test that defeats printed photos and replayed video. iBeta ISO/IEC 30107-3 PAD Level 2 is the anti-spoofing certification to ask any vendor for, and it's the bar we will hold our providers to.
How the credit balance worksTier 2 · Home Affairs registry*
A live answer from the National Population Register.
Tier 1 proves the document looks genuine. Tier 2 asks the source: a live HANIS check against the Home Affairs National Population Register, through a licensed provider. It's the assurance FICA, employment, property and finance flows actually want, with official ID photo retrieval* to follow, which proves considerably more than the check alone.
For contrast, plainly: DocuSign's ID verification in South Africa is document-based, and there's no public evidence it queries the National Population Register in real time. That live-registry gap is what Tier 2 is being built to cover — and until it runs, we don't cover it either.
What we don't claim yetAttached to the envelope
Verification lives in the audit trail, not in a silo.
Switch identity verification on for any envelope. The signer completes their check inside the signing flow — consent captured first — and the result is written into the document's hash-chained audit trail, right next to the signature events it vouches for. For envelopes that need a speed bump rather than a full check, SMS one-time-PIN signer authentication* is on its way.

One balance. It covers AI answers and high-quality OCR today, and identity checks when they ship. No plan bundles a set number of identity checks, and none is planned to.
Consent first. Minimum data. Nothing resold.
Verification only runs after the signer consents inside the flow — and the record we keep is minimised: the result the audit trail needs, not a warehouse of personal information.
Frequently asked questions
Tier 1 is document and biometric verification: the signer photographs their ID document, KuduDoc checks its authenticity, and a live selfie is matched against the ID photo. Tier 2 goes to the source — a live HANIS check against the Home Affairs National Population Register, through a licensed provider. In short: Tier 1 proves the document looks genuine and its holder is present; Tier 2 confirms the details against the official record itself. Both are in build; neither runs today.
No — it's a per-envelope choice. Switch verification on for the documents where knowing exactly who signed genuinely matters, and leave everyday signing exactly as fast as it already is. Envelopes without verification work the same way they always have.
Consent comes first — the signer sees what will be checked and agrees before anything runs, and that consent is recorded. What we keep afterwards is minimised to what the document's audit trail needs. Verification data is never resold or used for marketing, and KuduDoc is hosted in South Africa and built with POPIA in mind from the ground up.
Honestly: no. The ECT Act already recognises ordinary electronic signatures for most everyday documents, with or without an identity check. What an identity check changes is the evidence — if someone later claims "that wasn't me", you hold a record from the moment of signing, in the same audit trail as the signature. It reduces impersonation risk; it doesn't alter what the law already makes valid.
Tier 1 covers the documents South Africans actually carry: the Smart ID card, the green ID book, and passports. Tier 2 works from the signer's SA ID number, checked live against the National Population Register.
None of them yet — identity verification is in build, not live. When it ships it will draw on the same credit balance as AI answers and high-quality OCR: Personal includes no credits, Family 50 a month, Professional 150, Business 500. No plan will bundle a set number of identity checks. We are not publishing a per-check price until the checks actually run, and when we do it will include VAT and say so. Credits are explained on the pricing page.
